BluesBunny likes his downhome blues served with a dash of country and he was not disappointed with this fine album from Olga. With the inter song banter intact, the album sounds fresh and alive. Olga's voice is more than a little bit country but it is clear where her roots lie. That old acoustic blues tradition permeates proceedings. Despite the raw feel, a lot of work has gone into the arrangements and this certainly adds variety and enhances our listening enjoyment.
"I Won't Ask" is actually reminiscent of the Yardbirds. The traditional "What's the Matter with the Mill" is handled with respect. "Can You Forgive Me" takes us into Chris Isaak territory. "Gotta Keep Moving" features some fine guitar work and a shuffling backbeat. Our favourite track was "Stealin'" that takes us back in time to the early days of the blues and gives us an accordion and a tuba to keep us company.
This is good, honest music and is proof positive that keeping it simple can work magic. Well played and produced, this album can be safely recommended. It will certainly keep the blues away, so to speak!
