So, what does indie rock from the Sweden of today sound like? Unsurprisingly, it sounds just like the indie rock from the good old US of A and City Maze do a fine job of reliving the musical glories of those past times with their “Heavy Heart” EP.

Their EP “Heavy Heart” is an energetic affair with the four songs contained therein resonating with all the power chords that a Friday night band honouring the power pop of the nineties might need. “I’m The One” and “Heavy Heart” duly provide the proof of that.

City Maze are a band big on choruses and they take it to the bridge powered by the kind of insistent drumming that gave hair rock its driving force back in the day. Throw in catchy songs and perhaps a supporting beer buzz, and you get a band that makes as much noise as possible while never losing their focus on getting these songs from there to here. Subtlety isn’t really the name of their game, but you can’t go wrong when you generate enough energy to power every radio in the country.

If you like your power chords then you will like City Maze. It’s as simple as that.

Best song? The larger than life "Heavy Heart".

The verdict? City Maze go retro large!
