It doesn’t burn much in the way of brain cells to work out that “///” is the follow up to “//” and that TH/S /S SH/T are therefore happily continuing down the same oblique musical path that has made them the darlings of super cool Audi drivers everywhere.

And so it is. The hypnotic rhythms and sample mania, as always appropriated from the dancefloor, are complemented by the kind of phased to the point of sonic armageddon guitars that you would expect of a rock band yet, by including more in the way of subtler moments this time around, there is a noticeable reduction in the claustrophobic atmosphere prevalent in their previous releases and that might even give this band a degree of summer festival appeal.

There is never any doubt that TH/S /S SH/T can maintain a notable focus on their musical objectives and it is perhaps this quality makes “///” into an album that even those who can live in the daylight can appreciate. It would, of course, still help to be a child of the night but at least it isn’t compulsory.
