One joys of living in a decidedly insular country like ours is that anything foreign automatically gets promoted to exotic. Margot Kurtis would appear to be French and duly adds a not inconsiderable amount of urban style to her EP “Les pensées qui m'animent.”
There are four songs on this EP and they draw on currently fashionable minimalist electronica for their sonic influences but, as you listen, the looped to the beat presentation soon seems a wise stylistic choice to support her far from trivial lyrics. Don’t get me wrong. Her words don’t go far and wide in their scope and all that you hear is most certainly intended to be part of an up and close and personal intimacy but there is no doubt that all that is presented here gels into a cohesive whole.
Even if your linguistic skills don’t cross the Channel, the elegance that Margot Kurtis brings to this EP makes her music easy on the ear and that’s sufficiently exotic for me.
