Woke up this morning. It was raining but at least I wasn’t dead. As fortune was clearly on my side, I gave some money to some passing nuns and, with sobriety aforethought, pressed the play button on the “Wipe Clean” EP by Conscious Pilot.

Yeah and verily, some thought has gone into this. No, not the waking up thing but the six songs that make up this EP for there is post punk posturing aplenty evident throughout and the result is a collection of often oblique songs that pretty much run in circles but that, perhaps, is the point. Angularity is here, there and everywhere with those all-important guitars dropping of the jagged edge just before they become jangly as the drums keep hitting it square on the floor while those all important moments of melody hide themselves in the interludes between the metaphorical excesses of words that would be classed as poetic in the, always relevant, neo realism style.

With the price of drugs being more stable than the price of petrol, or chicken for that matter, Conscious Pilot, in their tempo shifting way, provide all the proof you need that those who purport to hate art will end up imitating it. So, if you like, here are six songs that are a reflection in the convex mirror of reality and Conscious Pilot will be for you if you pine for something more serious than the Daily Mail.
