Just when you thought it was safe to go out without a kaftan along comes another band with psychedelic intent. This time it is Broken Wolves and their EP is called “Crown Of Fire”.
“Crown Of Fire” sounds like it is from a time when the life was more herbal and these four songs all have rambling on their mind and are as low key as would have been the fashion in those bygone days of lava lamps and patchouli oil. The laconically delivered vocals overlaid with distinctly feminine harmonies and fuzzy guitars reinforce that illusion of time shifted parallel dimensionality and the folk flavoured, and somewhat bleak, lyrics further divorce Broken Wolves from the cold light of today.
Broken Wolves are heavy on the creation of atmosphere and it doesn’t take much listener effort to find yourself transported – or is that transcended? – from today into yesterday and, just like a camembert that has been to anger management class, the only valid course of action left is to tune in and drop out.
