Does an album’s title give a clue to the musical content? Probably so but often not and it is entirely possible that deciphering the meaning of a title like “Six Quests and Adventures but Have We Reached Our Destination Yet?” would likely take longer than listening to these six songs by Puppet Midnight.
Puppet Midnight is from Edinburgh. This information won’t help in your understanding of his music nor does it explain the outright quirkiness of all that you will hear. The song titles are cryptic and the songs, in and of themselves, descend into the kind of trippy minimalism that makes you think that some substances customarily deemed illegal have been ingested to turn the Puppet Midnight creative process into something rather more freeform in nature.
There are, of course, crabs and platypuses aplenty to guide you on this journey into the left field and, despite the generally oblique approach to music making, there is something genuinely endearing about “Six Quests and Adventures but Have We Reached Our Destination Yet?” and, as a bonus, you can practically guarantee that no AI bot will ever be able to generate something like this.
Naturally, this EP is also available on cassette. It would have to be.
