What the world need now is love sweet love. Classic words then and now but, in the here and now, something rather more akin to nihilism is par for the course and, duly, Punchbag aim for some well deserved targets that commonly decorate the walls outside your local railway station with their new EP “I’m Not Your Punchbag”.

Credit where credit is due, Punchbag are not your normal purveyors of plastic pop. All that is here is indeed of synthetic creation but, given that is the fashion of our times, they can’t be faulted for looping everything and its brother in and turning it into a sonic half brick. Today isn’t really a time and place for poetic protest songs and Punchbag, again to their credit, demonstrate that they have enough courage to take aim at more than themselves and let loose with some sharp words and near nineties style manic beats.

Less is sometimes more and more is sometimes just the voice of the machine lost in the caverns of creativity and, while “I’m Not Your Punchbag” certainly has more to it than just four songs, it is also true that Punchbag have nonetheless managed to successfully present themselves as the new style icons for their generation.
