Like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz, I wish I had a heart and, just perhaps, I would not need to actually go to the Emerald City if I were instead to meet Lizzie Reid and her EP “Undoing” on my journey along that long and winding road.
Having never met her, I cannot say whether or not Lizzie Reid has knowledge of guns or cake making. Certainly, these four songs suggest her talents are instead in developing the sentiments of the sensitive singer songwriter and taking said musical matters of the heart and infusing them with a distinctly pronounced melodramatic quality. Naturally, this isn’t a fey or feel good approach and, although the cascading guitars often threaten to overwhelm her endearingly restrained voice, the drama within her words is never in doubt.
Four songs are all you get from Lizzie Reid this time around and four songs are all you need when you know what you want to say and ”Undoing” might well help you find your heart whilst you get where you are going.
