Micah and The Mirrors are a new band to my ears yet, on the evidence of their album “Liar’s Chair”, all concerned have paid their dues on the periphery of the alt-rock genre and this album duly resonates with that, near timeless, conceptual framework that encompasses melody, emotion and literacy.
There is, however, nothing fancy about this album. Well-constructed and performed it most certainly is yet there are no artistic excesses to be found. The songs seem almost to a fault, to be borne of blue collar sensibilities and it is to this band’s credit that all they do seems destined to be relatable to your average Joe who, after some Friday night beers, may well find himself driven to join in on the chorus. That might sound like this is simplicity set to music yet there is little doubt that the literacy to be found in the lyrics is the unique selling point for this album. Like I said before, this isn’t showmanship. This is, instead, the work of musicians who know what the people want and, even so, can add enough flair to make their music more than something that exists solely in the background of a man’s mind.
“Liar’s Chair” is an album for the many and is none the worse for that and Micah and The Mirrors clearly have a musical recipe for the masses that works rather well.
