And now we are getting somewhere in my search for songs that seem, superficially at least, to be made of such things as candy floss and deliberate melodious intent. Double Françoise – long term residents of the super cool Freaksville label – utilise all their available Gallic charm to, once more, make the world a better place with their EP “La Poursuite”.
The only thing that I could find wrong with this EP was the simple fact that there were only five songs upon it when, if there were truly a God, there would have been more and, even when looking at “La Poursuite” with as much cynicism as someone from a country where the cool kids are a rarity can muster, it is hard to find anything to criticise in Double Françoise’s glorious mélange of melody and loops that seem so delightfully retro that they could not be anything other than analogue.
Double Françoise - Elisabeth Jutel and Maxence Jutel – prove themselves most charming masters and mistresses of the art of being eminently stylish without ever seeming like they are making any effort to be so. Maybe that is a French thing, and it probably is, yet when something it so obviously right then the rational mind should just accept it.
