I’m getting that post punk vibe again and, this time, it has crossed the Atlantic courtesy of Canadian band La Sécurité and their new album “Bingo! “.

Angularity is the name of the game with these ten songs making the most of every opportunity to mix jagged edges with oblique lyrics in both French and English. Throw in some spirited tempo shifting and even the most unimaginative amongst you will suspect that the art is strong is all that La Sécurité do. That is, of course, a good thing as their potential commercial intent will never overcome their desire to experiment a little and, perhaps, dance in the shadows and, although none of these songs has anything like the duration of an epic, this band still squeeze a fair degree of sheer playfulness into the spaces between words and music.

If those post punk sonic signatures still make your ears happy but you don’t want to hear the influences of the mainstream then “Bingo!” could well be the album for you.
