Sometimes you don’t need any more than a soundtrack for your trip to the shopping mall and sometimes you want just a little bit more. If you are so afflicted, Julez and The Rollerz have nine reasons to press play on your virtual cassette deck and turn the volume up to eleven on their album “Dirty Little Rock ‘N’ Roller”.
“Dirty Little Rock ‘N’ Roller” certainly sounds like an album that could have fallen out of the door of a time machine but Julez and The Rollerz are actually a band with opinions that are of today with “I Don’t Know You” and “ I Need Love” being enough to make a valley girl of days gone by hide under her bed. The synths may indeed sound like yesterday and the guitars have enough riffs to make the grade as traditional FM radio fodder yet I can also hear that we have a band here who have listened and learned lessons from the heyday of both British and American pop music whilst never actually becoming derivative in the process.
So, if songs of substance that make you want to sing along are your thing, then Julez and The Rollerz will be the kind of band that makes you happy and, while there might be an entire record collection to be found between the grooves of “Dirty Little Rock ‘N’ Roller”, at least it’s a good one.
Available for download from Bandcamp and the usual digital places.
