One day someone will invent a time machine and, from that point on, everything will become truly relative with the concept of yesterday and today becoming an optional extra in our daily existence. Traquair has, for his part, been around a while and it might even be fair to say that there is something timeless about his EP “Held The Pulse”.
It is perhaps worrying, to me at least. to consider the fact that I first wrote about Traquair way back in 2007 which wasn’t yesterday – or was if you have a time machine – and he is still diligently plodding along his own, self-determined, path with these five songs sounding much like much of his previous eight releases with his singer songwriter ethics being again conjoined with neo psychedelic flourishes that makes him sound like the godson of some past luminary soon to be revered by the beard scratchers on the reissue trail.
“Held The Pulse” sweeps by your ears in but a moment in this space time continuum yet it is to Traquair’s credit that he has so resolutely polished his time paralleled songs into a form that is far from unpleasant to listen to. Time might well be relative but words and music are forever.
