The Cocktail Slippers have been around a while yet their new album “Joyride” provides proof that keeping to a playbook that worked even way back then can be the best artistic choice that a band can make.
These ten songs are as polished as they should be for a band as experienced as The Cocktail Slippers but they are not so shiny as to be a mere afterthought to your daily soundtrack. Emotive vocals and those all important guitar riffs are, unsurprisingly, key to this band’s approach to getting in on your groove and, even without the benefit of the basement beer or ten that music like this usually needs, your ears might well find the weaponised combination of melody, hooks and motive power something akin to a direct hit on your bulletproof vest. After all, you don’t need to break new ground when you can cook up a storm as well as The Cocktail Slippers do.
“Joyride” is an album full of good time music and, while that might sound like much in these days when the highly profitable stadium audience is the target of choice, that very, sometimes not immediately obvious, element of full time fun is why The Cocktail Slippers have been on their feet for so long.
