I like the movies so I must therefore like movie soundtracks which, of course, I do. So, when “A Day of Unrest” by Eleven76 – aka Paul Elliot and Dan Smith - made its way to my ears, happiness would surely ensue.
Well sort of. On this album we get twelve tracks that are styled to go à la mode with as many musical styles as any connoisseur of retro poliziotteschi or similar seventies exploitation films would ever want. Undoubtedly, these twelve extended soundtrack cues are performed with a suitable amount of respect for their inspiration and, in isolation, they might even find a place on the trendier dancefloors as part of a super cool segue into psychedelic oblivion yet, as an album, they seem just a bit too detached from each other for coherence.
I will, however, admit to finding some amusement in guessing what movie from European cinema’s glorious low budget past would have used the tracks on this album in its soundtrack and I am sure that the cool kids – or, at least, the adults that were once the cool kids but are now the core purchasers of remastered 4K UHD discs – will put on their designer sunglasses and find themselves transported back to the days when glamour and exploitation could happily coexist.
