Eclectic. A curious mix of Americana and cabaret - there is even a track sung in French. That was our first impressions of the music of Kristin Shout and Smoking Kitten. Initially drawn to this CD by the presence (on backing vocals) of BluesBunny favourite Melissa Ziemer, we were pleasantly surprised by the lyrically adept Ms Shout who brings us the soundtrack to the kind of dark, twisted world that you might find in a David Lynch movie. Revel also in some quality musicianship from her band Smoking Kitten. Yet again, independent music proves itself far more interesting and challenging than the multinational supermarket products.
Definitely not cute and sugary, this one will grow on you. Open your ears and listen.
