Hercules Mandarin, Must Be Something, Any Color Black and Caragh Nugent live at Pivo Pivo in Glasgow

Krusovice on draught. It's not often that the Bluesbunny drinks lager. You see, lager is only acceptable when it has some hitting power. Miller, for example, is only fit for women and students. Krusovice, however, deserves your respect. So, Bluesbunny looked around a rather busy Pivo Pivo and wondered if the size of the crowd was in any way related to the provision of decent beer on draught. Or maybe it was the music courtesy of Caragh Nugent, Any Color Black, Must Be Something and Hercules Mandarin?

First on was Caragh Nugent. Not that she turned up alone as she brought Steve and Matt (barefooted for some artistic reason…) along for company. "Free" and the rather more dramatic "Lay Down Your Guard" went down as well as always. It has been a while since the Bluesbunny has seen Ms Nugent and we were once again reminded that she has one of the finest voices this side of anywhere.

Next on were Any Color Black. No performance by Any Color Black would be complete without the twenty minute preamble of getting the Mac laptop to do the right thing (or indeed anything). Unlike the last time Bluesbunny saw them, Louise and Andy are electrified tonight. Big power chords are the order of the day over a robotic electro beat. The sort of thing that would put you in hangover induced hell if it were not for Louise's entrancing vocals. And as for "Kisses". Was it enough to distract a man from his Krusovice? Oh yes!

Empty glass refilled and time for another band. A 4 piece band at that going by the name of Must Be Something. Initially they sounded like any of a hundred indie rock bands but they turned out to be a bit special with the drummer (called Matthew, we believe) showing all the signs of rhythmic excellence. This band certainly did not suffer from a shortage of energy either and powered through their set like men possessed with "First One to Go" and their closing song "Prize fight" being the standout songs. Loud and proud - Bluesbunny likes that!

Kat in a hat. Not a Dr Seuss reference either but the Hercules Mandarin's violinist, Kat, was actually wearing a hat. When you write as many words as the Bluesbunny does, you live for these little events that allow you to write something that might be mistaken as witty. Anyway, we like Dr Seuss. Not as much as we like Hercules Mandarin. Or beer for that matter. But a lot. It's a full band tonight as well so there is much to enjoy as they strut their way through favourites like the storming "This is a Riot" to new songs like "Dark Shadows". Class and style are much in evidence so why do we not hear Hercules Mandarin on the radio? Because there is no justice in the world. That's why.

This was the first time that the Bluesbunny had been to Pivo Pivo since the new stage and sound equipment was installed. The beer was well up to scratch and it was remarkably busy for a Tuesday night. Promising signs indeed.
