Claire Wood and The Miss’s live at The Halt 2 in Glasgow

What to do on a Sunday? Could go to the evening service at church. Could go out and drink beer. Could go out and listen to live music. Two out of three ain't bad - as the song goes - so the option of going to church got passed over. Anyway, Claire Wood was having a launch party for her new EP. It was like a sign from Him upstairs.

Providing support tonight are The Miss's. Last time this Bluesbunny saw them, they were more plentiful but tonight they are a duo. Audrey's got the guitar and Michelle had the big voice. Not that they don't do a nice line in harmonies, of course, with "Song Six" being delivered with both fragility and grace. The commercial charms of "Mr Muscle" didn't go unnoticed by the audience either.

Talking of audiences, it was gratifying to see a very respectable turnout especially since this was a Sunday night. Accordingly, Ms Wood had made a special effort. Not only did she have her regular cohorts - Nicola West on cello and Paul Tracey on guitar - with her but also what looked suspiciously like a real piano. Tonight, her silken tones had a touch of melancholy about them with "Save Yourself and Go" being particularly moving. Of course she played songs from her new EP like "Grow" and "Our Latest Adventure" but this Bluesbunny's favourite was one that did not make it on to the EP - "Teeth". It turned out that Ms Wood is moving to London soon. That's Glasgow's loss as the lady has real class.

The Halt Bar (part 2…) is an odd venue, by the way. They must be preparing for nuclear war as all the windows were covered with card. The sound tonight proved to be very respectable as was the Guinness. It was still light as Bluesbunny departed. Chicken pakora in daylight? There's always a first time.
