Tony Yorston, Harper and Reid and Gavin Gordon live at The Liquid Ship in Glasgow

What with increasingly regular gig cancellations, a Bluesbunny's reviewing plans are always in flux. Hence the unscheduled visit to the Liquid Ship tonight as you know that there is always some good music to be had at a Free Candy Session. Maybe a beer or two as well…

First on tonight was Tony Yorston. What can be said about him? Well - one man, one guitar, some decent songs and that is pretty much it.

Next on were Harper and Reid who provided some rather pleasing female harmonies to enliven their sweet, gentle songs. Unlikely to offend anyone, they could sooth the most troubled souls with their music. They also had a fiddle player with them tonight but nobody falls in love with a fiddle player. That would just be wrong. However, Harper and Reid are an entirely different matter…

Last on tonight was Gavin Gordon. Again, just one man and a guitar but this time with a twist. Aided by skilled use of effects pedals, he certainly would never be mistaken for a member of the ranks of dull singer songwriters polluting the bars and clubs of Glasgow with their angst ridden drone. He's got an intense singing style and, while you might not be impressed by his stagecraft, songs like "Underwater" will not only interest but also intrigue your ears. Very worthy of your attention.

Damn, I feel good! What time is it? It's chicken pakora time.
