Aames, The Scruffs and Talking Through Tin Cans live at Pivo Pivo in Glasgow

My head hurts. No, it really does hurt. Must be too much thinking. Or maybe the confused emotions. Either way, my soul needs a diversion. A diversion not entirely unrelated to music.

So there you have it. The reason why I am in Pivo Pivo, I mean. Well, maybe not the only reason. I am confused after all. Music. The music. Aames are on stage. They play with the leaden precision of the wedding band - which was a bit unexpected - but right at the end of their set, the band suddenly change direction and rock out big style. Commercial appeal is something that Aames have but they do tend to play it very safe.

Altogether louder and more raucous are The Scruffs. They hail from Barrhead and are no strangers to these ears. I'm not going to argue about guitarist Stephen Dowling's abilities (because there is absolutely no argument about his abilities) and the rest of the band held their end up well tonight. They are certainly better than the last time I saw them and this band have the potential to develop into something special.

Last on were a neat and tight little band called Talking Through Tin Cans. They played the kind of music that would make a good Friday night for a beer soaked crowd. Up tempo, a bit rocky, a bit punky - you know the kind of thing. Their music won't suit the pretentious but, hey, they are from Airdrie after all.

For some reason, thoughts of chicken pakora did not cross my mind tonight.
