Popart, Sugar Crisis and Paper Mountain live at The 13th Note in Glasgow

Ah, the unrelenting monotony of life. Every day the same, every night likewise. Or maybe not…

I'm in basement at the 13th Note in Glasgow. Not the first time I've been there and it won't be the last. Three bands - not an unusual amount - going by the names of Popart, Sugar Crisis and Paper Mountain.

Popart are on first. Apparently the unholy communion of stand up comedy and music, this duo (or trio if you count the laptop) provide more than a modicum of entertainment. It's hard to take them seriously. There's a weedy sort of posh boy wearing a "High School Musical" t-shirt for a start and he's doing some sort of mad cross between rap and a spoken word recitation. Then there's a bearded beer drinking chap who occasionally plays guitar in between pressing buttons on the aforesaid laptop. OK, they may be more mayonnaise than HP sauce but they certainly put a smile on my face.

Sugar Crisis are on second. It's hard not to like their good natured brand of electro pop. They are the proud purveyors of my favourite song to sing in the kebab shop queue - that's "Stuck in Traffic", by the way - and that, I'm glad to say, is not their only good song. Bouncy, happy and distinctly infectious, their set positively flies by. Nothing drags and Sugar Crisis prove themselves an effective antidote to depression. A bit on the cheesy side perhaps but certainly not ripe.

Paper Mountain are on last. There are three of them. I look at my watch. It's time to leave.
