Ah, the simple things in life! One man and a guitar (times three) at the Free Candy Sessions with Incrediboy, Traite Walker and Graeme MacDonald. There was even real free candy this time as well.
Incrediboy is a pretty good name for a musician. As a statement of intent, it might be a misleading though for Incrediboy turned out to an understated performer of simple songs that document feelings of alienation. Not a purveyor of happy songs then but there's no doubting the power behind those laconically delivered words.
A rather more imposing proposition was Traite Walker. Playing his left handed guitar with commendable dexterity, he powered through a short set that would make any fan of John Martyn take notice. He's not in the happy song business either and that's just fine with me as his worn voice suggested that he knew what he was talking about.
The final one man and a guitar tonight was Graeme Macdonald. He had two microphones though so perhaps he had an invisible friend? It's been a while since I've seen a musician with an invisible friend. Regrettably, there were no invisible white rabbits anywhere. Instead, he had talent and confidence keeping him company. While his songs were certainly commercial, the most notable thing about Graeme Macdonald was that he had actual stage presence. That bodes well for his future.
All that music has given me an appetite. A nice salad or some chicken pakora? Tough decision but I know I made the right one.
