Zoe Lewis, The Other Side, Syndri, Whisky River live at Cosmopol in Clydebank

Time for pastures new. Time to find a venue the Bluesbunny has never been to before. Time to visit Cosmopol in Clydebank.

As the greatest and wisest of all Bluesbunnies once said - if in doubt, read the poster. That'll be Zoe Lewis on stage because no one else on the bill sounds like they would be a girl. Quite impressive she turned out to be as well, with her voice showing real power and control. Aided and abetted by the proverbial one man and a guitar, she blasted through her set like a woman who should be fronting a rock band and, showing a creditable amount of imagination, she even covered Toyah's hit "It's a Mystery" and left it beaten into a new and improved state. Not bad at all.

Following Ms Lewis was The Other Side. They were missing their lead singer - lost in Fraserburgh apparently - but showed determination and continued on regardless. A good, tight little rock band they were but the lack of a lead singer was felt. From previous experience however, they can cut the mustard when at full strength.

Next on was Syndri. Well, you got value for money as this more like three bands than one. The lead singer seemed to be fond of - what's the phrase? - melodramatic popular songs while the rest of the band split themselves between synth pop and eighties pomp rock. The end result of this was a rather unfocussed performance that was more Cindy than Syndri.

Last on were Whisky River who turned out to be a covers band. A pretty decent covers band but a covers band nonetheless. There's not a lot more to be said about them.

Back to the Bluesmobile at double speed as it is chicken pakora time!
