Singer songwriters are far more common than, say, honest politicians. Peter Searcy seems to be an honest singer songwriter judging by the evidence of the songs on this album.

Recorded in his basement, he showcases his song writing skills here. It's an unusual skill as well, as the songs are often introspective in content but distinctly commercial in their construction.  It's a difficult tightrope to walk but he does so with confidence. That straight down the line all American approach is best demonstrated on the likes of "Grace" and "Loneliest Girl", the two standout tracks from this album. However - and maybe it the British expectation of quirkiness from our singer songwriters - the proceedings just seemed to lack sparkle.

When I think of it this album feels like a songwriter's album. There's no great variation in tempo and the arrangements are basic. Now, I don't doubt the sentiments behind the songs and how they are portrayed here but I was left with the nagging feeling that there was a much bigger version of these songs just waiting to get out.
