Dick Dangerous & The Love Bastards? A good name for a band and an unusual one considering they come from arty, politically correct Edinburgh. This self titled release is not a subtle album. No, sir. Its caffeine and lager fuelled excursion into a musical hinterland occupied by the lost souls of ska, rock and punk. Growling, yelping, shouting vocals creep over the top of a vicious drumbeat whilst a lonely saxophone alternately strokes and punches you.
From the frenetic "Screaming Heartache Blues" to wildly over the top "She's Fucking with My Head", these are the kind of songs that they should play on the night buses in Edinburgh. The clientele would love them.
Raw but effective, this album is equally good as a good soundtrack to a night in on the cheap lager. Either way, it kind of sets you up for a fight in a kebab shop. Especially if you are in Musselburgh.
