Wakey wakey! Paper Planes don't do songs that put you to sleep and "Doris Day" is no exception. There's the laconic drawl of Jennifer Paley for a start - she'll steal the bourbon from right under your nose. She'll smile sweetly while she is doing that because she's backed up by some seriously heavyweight reverberating musical muscle. Pounding drums drive the song right out of the speakers across the room just so they can kick you in the face.
Somewhat more Scottish in its lineage is the flipside "Restless". Twisted guitars pop in and out of the mix like they would in a Goodbye Mr Mackenzie song. Ms Paley - I'll be polite because she's probably a bit scary - sounds all sort of sweet (but not so innocent) yet knowing. Meet her in the dark and she'll steal your heart and your wallet.
These are songs just destined for the spinning black magic of vinyl. 45rpm and no less!
