Norman Borland is from County Donegal though you'd never know it from this collection of traditional style country songs. All that shows of his true heritage is the merest hint of an Irish lilt in his voice.

The songs are farmed from the fields of the country greats with respectful and mellow versions of well known country songs like George Strait's "Love Without End Amen", Buck Owens "Roll Out The Red Carpet" and Josh Turner's "Me and God". That's a pretty standard approach in Nashville, of course, and few rising artists go with their own material. However, the key thing here is Mr Borland's voice. He is so warm and mellow that he makes Val Doonican sound like Sid Vicious. Women will sigh and men will cry in their beer - it's that kind of voice. There is more though. Hidden amongst all that conventionality are some nice musical touches like Giles Tingey's subversive piano on "Someone Is Looking". The high point of the album? That was the wildly sentimental title track "One in a Million". No one would be immune to that song.

Whilst this is very much a traditional country album in its approach, it is also a very well done one and, if you don't feel the tears welling up whilst listening, then you probably have a wooden heart.
