Packaging is important. Not just in the retail environment but also for the reviewer and indeed the listener. It might well be unfashionable in this downloadable world but I like that kind of thing as it gives a sense of perspective to the music contained therein.

The hand drawn sleeve points your mind in the right direction. You know this is not going to be a standard glossy production. It will be ethereal and offbeat probably evoking more primitive feelings. The production indeed tends towards the lo-fi but at times you think, nonetheless, of Peter Gabriel in his less bombastic moments and Yvonne Neve's vocals reinforce this world music feel.  Come to think of it, she sounds like Kate Bush without the pretentiousness. The lyrics have a kind of poetry to them - they are a bit obscure, a bit hippie trippy, a bit seventies British folk music ("I don't understand/A fiery phoenix bird's tail/Can't even lift a wing to fly") - but they succeed in diverting you away from the realities of life.

I can accept that these songs won't be to everyone's taste but they worked for me. Mood altering stuff.
