By some chance, BluesBunny reviewed this album in the run up to the festive season. Whilst certainly not a Xmas album, it did seem particularly appropriate to the festive season as it makes a fine accompaniment to beer.

Junkman's Choir give us a spirited album that mixes up the Pogues and the Proclaimers with some Cajun spice. The songs vary between traditionalist ("Baptist Song" and "Hogweed John") to political rhetoric ("Holyrood Dream" and "The Spike") and bizarre tales of life on the road ("Borracho Loco").

Performed with gusto, this also makes a fine party album and is more than good enough to cause you to retire your Pogues Greatest Hits album. The intelligent lyrics, however, indicate that Junkman's Choir are worth closer investigation than their good time music might make you initially think. Track it down and buy it.
