Here's something of a curiosity in a musician from Glasgow - class. This is the debut album from RM Hubbert and it's an instrumental album that demonstrates his fleet fingered, flamenco styled approach to the fretboard of the acoustic guitar.

All that undoubted practice means that there is much to admire in the classical construction of songs like "For Maria" or "Skyreburn" and likewise much to admire in the dexterity and poise shown in more energetic songs like "Tipsy Tapsy". You really don't doubt his abilities for a moment.

However, and this is true of most instrumental albums, how much you like it will depend on your mood. The songs don't really lend themselves to being hummable - and I don't supposed that they were ever meant to do - but you also can't argue with the fact that RM Hubbert is an eloquent and talented guitarist who can easily demonstrate the beauty of a musical instrument so often consigned to the hell of being the strum along accompaniment to musical angst and, as I've seen him live, I can also tell you that he isn't faking it - he really is that good.
