The Bonnevilles seem to be from Ireland and perhaps an Ireland of the past at that. "Santa Muerte Murder Songs" makes you think of time when rock music had something to say for itself. This isn't a fancy song - well, it two songs segued together with sledgehammer subtlety - but it hits the mark and hits it hard.
With a massive piledriver of a riff that could have been stolen from a Cream or early Deep Purple record, The Bonnevilles sing like they invented the term disreputable. They would fit right in to that time of metamorphosis of the British blues movement into stadium filling rock gods. The second part of this (err…) medley goes positively mellow and reflective like an Eagles song trying to escape over the border to Mexico.
So drink your beer, turn the volume right up and annoy the neighbours.
Available on a split vinyl 7" with "Lordy" from Thee Phantom Herd.
