Serbian musician Predrag Nedic (a.k.a. PNDC) has, in the past couple of years, created a somewhat explosive musical relationship with Greek artist Housework. Whatever the permutations involved in their collaborations - one remixing or having indirect involvement in the other's song - one thing is sure: it works.
"Moments of Grey Forgettableness" is, for the most part, an assortment of odd songs that never quite made their previous two albums for various reasons. This doesn't go any distance to suggest a lack of quality - in fact it's a peculiar opposite. "Unless" has an industrial quality that is, somehow, danceable. Tracks from previous albums (such as "Animal Farm" from Secondhand Language) are remixed to fine effect, while demo cuts ("Matters", "Lights") are exposed towards the album's end.
Undoubtedly, these songs would take on a greater feel with better production, and were surely intended for the live/club scene. From heartbeat-esque drums to ear-harassing feedback, these songs will feed the mind for days on end. Like some friendly drug, you'll return time and again trying to decipher a particular song's meaning.
Throughout, this album is no run-of-the-mill record-and-remix affair. A lot of thought and effort - on the part of both artists - has gone into how this album has been structured, layered, and even packaged. The end product is somewhat of a glorious mess, or cut-and-paste triumph, depending on how you look at it. Either way, give it a listen and count how many ways it impresses you.
