Time to spin up the hi-fi again and this time it is for the debut EP from Italian band Levis Hostel which - we are told - is a studio only incarnation of singer songwriter Ezio Piermattei.

Listening at what you get here is, at times, confusing as consistency isn't the name of the game. Starting off with "Initials EMSE", you could well think that you are listening to an underground band from Baltimore until the song heads off into the kind of urban backwater occupied by the likes of The Primevals. "On the Waterfront" proves more consistent in its approach echoing both Bowie and Jennifer Gentle throughout while "Red Roses and Tulips" heads off to the west coast of America to make new friends.

Then we get a bit of psych-pop called  "The Dancing Chicken" before a candy coated bit of madness consumes us in "Caramel Says ViolinCheerio" complete with wacky lyrics that don't quite make sense (and probably weren't meant to either). However, a bit of craziness is good for the soul.

Let down by the sub standard sound and frequently strained vocals, this is nonetheless an interesting and rather entertaining debut that bodes well for the future.
