It's time for album number fourfor Inverness alt-country band The Galipaygos and "Look Out for the King" follows the acclaimed "Demise of Larry Lipgloss".
They've not strayed far from their formula with this album with that wry sense of humour making regular appearances throughout. There is however a degree of seriousness on display here. In much the same way as The Kinks did with their "Muswell Hillbillies" album, The Galipaygos take the musical themes of this album and use them to make well targeted jabs at the mentality that comes with living in a town way up north. "The Walk", in particular, starts off as a prodigal son returning type song before clarifying that the journey home will be more Get Carter than a slight biblical return. Stylistically there are a couple of unexpected diversions like the (convincingly executed) trip down the southern rock road taken by "Monsters". Best track was the eloquently acerbic "Poor Man's Mind" that makes for a perfect end to an alcohol soaked night.
Let done by the flat sound, "Look Out for the King" is nonetheless an enjoyable album that will easily satisfy fans of this band.
