What have we here? Another four piece band from Glasgow, this time going by the name of Midnight Thursday. There's a lot of it about as they say so do these guys have anything special going for them?
Actually, they do. Whilst this release is clearly one from a band at the start of their career, they show a confidence and restraint that distinguishes them from the crowd. For example, guitarist Neil McFetridge seems content to drive the songs along without being right at the front of the action and this leaves vocalist John Russell plenty of opportunity to sell the songs with the pleasingly melodic, if somewhat Deacon Blue in style, "Naked City" and the mainstream rock of "Midnight Run" standing out.
I don't think there is a stone cold killer song here on this EP but I also don't doubt that this is a band that will have one soon. I'll be looking forward to it.
