Ming Ming and the Ching Chings? Nice name for a twee pop band only they aren't a twee pop band. In fact, just the opposite for their "Not in Anyone's Gang" EP displays no shortage of aggression and energy making for something just a bit too scary for the cardigan wearers and making for a welcome break from the surfeit of three chord pretty boy indie rockers that pollute Glasgow.
More to the point, Ming Ming and the Ching Chings just sound dirty and raw. Guitars rip up the songs that hail back to the perverted garage rock of holy fathers like the MC5. I mean, what kind of damage to the dance floor would be done by songs like "Straighten Up!"? The reverb laden "Secrets of Men" would likewise qualify for an ASBO and as for the crazy, messed up discord of "Creepy Tales"…
If ever there ever was an EP that needed a social worker then it is this one. Reeking of bad attitude and underlying thoughts of misbehaviour, Ming Ming and the Ching Chings are one Glasgow band, however, that have learned that you need more than just attitude to make it in this no mean city. You also need songs and they've definitely got them.
