Bettin' Woman is the debut album from Florida based Kelly Dees. She's a bit funky and a bit bluesy. In fact, she manages to sing the blues without sounding like a blues singer. That's not a criticism, merely an observation about her style. Her voice does not have the range of the greats but she gives a convincing performance. It might take a few plays of this album to get under your skin but that is exactly what she will do.

Highlights are the eighties funk styled "On My Way", the melancholy piano driven "I Will be Happy" and "There'll be a Day" featuring a wicked trombone solo by Frankie J. This is an honest, enjoyable album. It is as simple as that. No great drama. No hype. Just a bunch of musicians doing what they do best led with some style by Kelly Dees.

Our conclusion, therefore, is that this is an assured, good natured and confident first release that you can safely add to your collection.
