It’s hard to take work up much in the way of enthusiasm for the indie rock genre. Whether the band comes from the USA or the UK, it is pretty much the same story – four pretty boys with floppy haircuts playing three chords for far too long because they really only have one song. However if the indie rock band comes from Australia then things could turn out to be different.

If the Australian band happens to be called Drawn From Bees then things are most certainly different. Focussing heavily on melody and aiming themselves at more than the teen market allows them to highlight a welcome maturity in their sound and to demonstrate old fashioned values like quality musicianship.  Taking something from previous Australian world dominators like Crowded House and INXS – most evident on “Bus Now” and “Cable in the Sky” respectively – Drawn From Bees also show a mastery of the concept of radio friendliness. Speaking personally though, I liked their more reflective songs like “Waiting For The End” and “Death Of A General” that flowed so very easily from the speakers to my soul.

If I were to be cynical, I would say that all this band would need for world domination is a lead singer with an “interesting” haircut. Oh, they have one already…
