Some bands just make music that is likeable and Edinburgh based three piece band Hagana make likeable music with the six tracks on their EP providing more than adequate proof of their likeability. You can’t really argue with the neo rock of “She Said” or “Act Like A Shadow” or even the more angular indie charms of “What You Do” as an amalgam of the last ten years of popular music unfolds in your ears.
The downside of this “user friendly” approach to song writing and performance is that you end up sounding generic and, to a certain extent, that has happened here. There’s certainly nothing wrong here and it is, of course, a valid approach to the whole making music thing but even at their best (“Stuck”) Hagana don’t quite manage to stamp their individuality on a song.
Likeable? Yes. Lovable? The jury is out on that one.
