I’ve not got much knowledge of the music scene in Finland but I suspect – perhaps in my ignorance – that the weather would tend to make for serious musicians. After all, the Beach Boys were products of the Californian sun, weren’t they?
So, are Constantine serious? I reckon they are given the evidence of this EP. There might only be three songs here but, like any good heavy rock, band they are laid heavy with percussive rhythms, guitar riffs and suitably intense vocals (even if Lassi Vääränen sounded more than a bit like Lita Ford on “Of Hopes And Dreams”) . Unsurprisingly, the lyrics of the songs pile on the anguish and quasi religious overtones with the “Downfall of Eve”, in particular, being a muscular workout worthy of some heavyweight hybrid of rock musical and societal deconstruction.
In musical terms, Constantine perform well as a band and genre fans will no doubt find the three songs on this EP much to their liking even if they don’t stray far from the norm.
