Sometimes you can just smell the promise in a musician. You feel it in your bones and Martin Livingstone shows that promise. Doing his solo thing here, he takes his song writing in a different direction from that of the West Lothian band Burnout that he also fronts.

“I Believe in Love” is less influenced by the Gallagher brothers than his previous releases and Mr Livingstone is, at times, almost evangelical in his delivery.  Providing a message of hope in song is not that common these days – a side effect of the living in the time of the “me” generation” perhaps – but that is what you get here. Come to think of it, “I Believe In Love” does feel like an updated version of a song of the time of the love generation but retro is now so he can’t really be criticised for that.

The low budget production dulls the impact of the well thought out arrangement but the truth is in the words (as it should be).  Sincerity flows from Mr Livingstone’s pen to your ears once again.
