Time for some instrumental ambient noodlings with this release from Taub, the trading name for this collaboration between Harold Nono and Me Raabensein. Let’s start with the good stuff – the cover photo (by Sammy Vance) is well up to the usual Bearsuit standards i.e. eyecatching in its simplicity and yet memorable.
Less impressive was, unfortunately, the music. Harold Nono has done much better before and on many of these tracks – in particular “The Sawdust and the Smile” and “Badlands” – he seems to have adopted a policy of recycling ideas from previous projects. After listening to this album, I began to wonder if these two good and truemusicans had developed some sort of aversion to melody so mundane were these tracks.
I’d like to say that the music on this CD was emotive or atmospheric or even that it was best experienced on headphones but it was just forgettable. Maybe they will find the right path next time?.
