Call Me Ishmael. Six piece rock/alt-rock/indie rock band hailing from the Glasgow area. You’ve probably guessed what they sound like before you even hear them and, to a certain extent, that’s true for this EP is a bit of a curate’s egg.
“Blood And Ashes” and “I Am Stop” do sound exactly like what you expect of a rock/alt-rock/indie rock band hailing from the Glasgow area these days. Given the evidence of these songs, you would be hard pressed to distinguish Call Me Ishmael from any of a hundred other bands. Even the rather less frenetic “Fire The Tank” does little more than cause you to wonder just how long this band’s list of influences are.
Then along came this band’s saviour - “We Are So Far from Daylight”. This is a growling, howling monster of a song with a scenery chewing amount of drama in the vocals and guitar work worthy of a European art rock band. If Snow Patrol were to get stuck on a desert island with Aiden then the resulting jam session would sound just like this song.
One great song and all is forgiven.
