There’s a sound in my head that sounds like torment. It’s not an unpleasant sound by any means but there is little doubt that it is the sound of the darkness. The sound of The Lotus Project. Little fragments of ambient electronica like some stripped out Sakamoto soundtrack leads your ears to the dual altars of reverb laden guitar and a clear female voice that drives a bone handled knife through the soul as “Nothing Feels Like Loving You” exorcises its demons.

Once is never enough and “It’s Love That Brought You Here” applies more tension to the rope around your neck with a bit of vocal vibrato suggesting an emotional intensity that will, and does, float high above the urban rain falling from the musical sky before, in a dark diva-esque turnabout, “Shatter” smashes the crystal glass that hearts are made of. “The End” is just that – a deconstructed tone poem that recombines itself into an anthem to the shadows.

The Lotus Project aren’t for everyone but when you get them they will get you and the sunrise won’t save you. Not now or ever.
