Ha! They don’t make them like this anymore! Time once again to air another slice of quality powerpop from the Bluesbunny vinyl archives. I’d clean forgot about the Expressos – they only released a handful of singles and a single LP called ““Promises and Ties” in the eighties – but “Tango In Mono” is a genuine three minute pop treasure.

They just don’t make songs like this anymore. Simple, female led (by one Rozzi Rayner) and so reminiscent of a cross between the Pretenders and The Shangri-La’s (only nowhere as derivative and those references might suggest). I’ve always wondered why nobody makes three minute pop gems like this nowadays and have come to the conclusion that the average attention span of the market for such music has shrunk to seconds and therefore such songs just wouldn’t get the time to sink in and do their thing.

On the flipside is “Thumbs On The Ground” and it is no mere throwaway being almost irritatingly catchy in its edgy garage rock kind of way with some nifty riff stealing at the end just to add icing to the cake.

So dance around your handbag in your white stilettos to this one. There is no shame in doing that.
