No doubt following on from the resurgence in popularity of Kula Shaker, their front man Crispian Mills gets a couple of tracks from a long lost solo album released on vinyl.
Fans of Kula Shaker will find much to enjoy in “Healing Hands” that takes the psych pop vibe and throws in a bit of the old ambient groove with the result that the song is about as mellow as you can get on a selection of class As. Hell, it even sounds like a throwback to the late sixties but nevertheless convinces in a smoke and mirrors kind of way. It’s even got a mantra on the fade out - “Girl, I wanna be your man…”
I was expecting something similar on the flipside only it wasn’t. Whilst not exactly a counterpoint to the song on the top side, it is like a more folk flavoured version of it. Slower and more reflective as befits a song about betrayal it, much like the A side, seems dislocated in time.
