There is music that really needs vinyl to be appreciated. Notwithstanding the sound quality debate, sometimes 180 grams of the black stuff is the minimum needed to hold it all together as a CD seems altogether too flimsy. However, a CD is how this four track EP from Eight Feet Deep was delivered and Billy “Pills” Fridrich and Mike DiMeo, who make up Eight Feet Deep, have made a spirited attempt at cracking the proverbial polycarbonate.

So, we are talking songs in the classic rock style here (as you might well have guessed). Whilst this EP is a recent release, it could have equally easily been pulled from the archives and passed off as lost songs from a forgotten rock giant. Mr Fridrich does everything but sing here and it would seem that he has also been feeding his guitar steroids. It has been a while since I’ve heard such muscled up riffs squeezed into a song and that is particularly true of “Throwdown” which should win some sort of prize for being massively macho in a time of limp political correctness. Admittedly the lyrics on all these songs wouldn’t win any prizes in a poetry competition but I don’t suppose that was the point and you’ve got to give Mike DiMeo credit for staying just ahead of that monster guitar.

No great surprises here but who cares about that? If you are into big rock sounds (and probably beer for breakfast too) then this EP will suit you just fine.
