Sometimes you just look at the cover and you know what an album will be like. So it was with Jeff Cochell’s “Between The Lines” album. Downbeat introspection was clearly going to be the name of the game.
Mr Cochell does a decent job on the guitar here although he never really does anything as radical as grabbing your attention and diverting you from your daily troubles but that perhaps was the aim of this album. Like the best background music, the songs on this album just seems to drift by without so much as a musical crash, bang or wallop and even the lyrics come across as a mere adjunct to the laid back guitar led proceedings.
“Between The Lines” is a pleasant enough listen and, unfortunately, that’s just about all it is.
