Sometimes I wonder if I think too much. That might explain why I keep wondering if the last two decades actually happened. Or it might not as, once again, it is back to the back to the eighties sound for Brighton band The Eleven 37s. However, despite my increasing aversion to all things retro, this isn’t at all bad.
Just for starters, I can actually say that I was pleased with the standard of musicianship. A band that can play well and play together as a band isn’t that common these days. Musically, this is white boy britfunk mixed with pop and there is nothing wrong with that as so many bands back in the days proved. Fortunately for us all, they are a lot tougher than the wimpy offerings of that time even if they don’t quite hit the hardcore four on the floor level of modern day contemporaries like New Jersey’s Big Baby Ernie. That said, I can still see “Personality” getting many people up on the good foot.
I reckon that The Eleven 37s just need that one great song to break through. It isn’t on this EP but I don’t doubt that they have the musical moves to create it.
